Procedure, Purpose and Prevention Associated with Laser Surgery
Laser therapies are the medical treatments used by light sources, by stimulated emission of radiation and then turning it into specific wavelengths. Laser surgeries allow surgeons to work at high levels of precision by focusing on a small area, damaging less of the surrounding tissue. Even patients experience less pain, swelling compared to traditional surgery.

The procedure of Laser Surgery
Laser surgeries include:
- Refractive eye surgery
- Tooth whitening
- Cosmetic scar, tattoo, or wrinkle removal
- Cataract
- Tumour removal
Treating a tumour with Laser surgery is processed with a thin, lighted, flexible tube named endoscopy that will direct the laser and view tissues inside the body. The pipe is inserted through an opening in the body, through the mouth then the doctor aims the laser and destroys the tumour.
Carbon dioxide lasers make shallow cuts and therefore they are specially used for superficial cancers, such as skin cancer. Argon lasers can be used to activate photosensitizing drugs during photodynamic therapy. It also makes shallow cuts and therefore they are combined with chemotherapy to kill more cancer cells.
Low-level laser therapy also called cold laser therapy uses laser light set to wavelengths. It can perform minor surgeries and promote regeneration in tissue. Laser Eye Surgery involves a small blade or cutting laser to excise a small hinged flap away from the front of your eye. Then with each pulse of the laser beam, a tiny amount of corneal tissue is removed. After reshaping the cornea, the surgeon lays the flap back into place. There’s also the PRK method for patients with thin cornea who are notsuited for LASIK. This procedure typically does not involve the use of
a flap in the outer cornea for correcting vision, plus the prk recovery times though longer is adequate for the success of the procedure.
Purpose of Laser Surgery
- Has the efficiency to shrink or destroy tumours, polyps, or precancerous growths
- Relieve symptoms of cancer
- Can remove kidney stones smoothly
- Even removes part of the prostate
- Can repair a detached retina efficiently
- It improves the vision of eye superficially
- Can be a good treatment for hair loss
- Can treat any type of pain including back nerve pain
- Lasers can have, effect and may be used to seal:
- nerve endings after a surgery
- blood vessels to prevent blood loss
- lymph vessels to limit the spread of tumour cells
- Lasers may be useful in treating the very early stages of many cancers, including:
- cervical cancer
- penile cancer
- vaginal cancer
- vulvar cancer
- non-small cell lung cancer
- basal cell skin cancer
- It is usually used alongside other treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.
- Laser therapy is also used in cosmetology:
- To remove warts, moles, birthmarks, and sunspots
- Removes unwanted hair
- Removes wrinkles, blemishes, or scars
- Even removes tattoos
Laser eye surgery may be an option for the correction of one of these vision problems:
- Nearsightedness (myopia) – When your eyeball is slightly longer than normal or when the cornea curves too sharply, and you can see objects that are close fairly clearly, but not those that are far away.
- Farsightedness (hyperopia) – When you have a short eyeball or a cornea which makes the near vision, and sometimes distant vision, blurry.
- Astigmatism – When cornea flattens unevenly and disrupts the focus of near and distant vision.
